199 Wolverhampton street Dudley DY1 1DU was a grade 2 listed building built in 1850 and located in the heart of Dudley. The location of the building is close to government offices, organisational buildings, colleges and shops in the centre of Dudley. Formerly a solicitor’s office spanning 4 floors (Basement – 2nd floor) connected by a communal central stairs, the building boasts of interesting architectural features – very high ceiling, moulded cornice, huge sash windows, solid timber doors and architraves. A rear parking lot provides necessary car parking. The planning authority granted permission for 4 flats (1 flat on each floor). An ancillary building at the rear was to be demolished and the area converted to outdoor seating and plants area. A rear metal escape staircase was to be safely removed. Ground floor to 2nd floor were converted to 2 bed apartments, while the basement was converted into a 1 bed flat with all the attendant services: electricity, water, ventilation in kitchens and baths, smoke alarm and AOV smoke vent dome in the communal.

This was 4nos - 1 bed apartments. Finished to high spec because of the Kings heath neighbourhood and intended buyers. Index was involved in both the designs and project managing the build (Index produced drawings and obtained planning - There was objection at planning so Index had to defend the scheme before planning committee before it was approved) It was an empty, dilapidated, derelict shell warehouse. Literally approximately half of it had to be knocked down and rebuilt from foundation ground up.
